About Me:
Scooter McFadgon is the founder of Fundamentals of Life Basketball Academy and a living example of how purpose, faith, and discipline can transform a life.
Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Scooter was a high-profile basketball player at every level. His talent and work ethic led him to play college basketball at the University of Memphis and the University of Tennessee, before launching a nine-year professional basketball career, including two years in the NBA. His journey through basketball took him across the world, competing throughout Europe and experiencing the opportunities the game can provide.
In 2014, Scooter’s life took a turning point.
Chasing what he believed was a fast way to financial success, he made decisions that would ultimately change his path. From 2017 to 2020, Scooter served time in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
During that period, he experienced a spiritual awakening that reshaped his purpose. While incarcerated, he served as a peer education director, mentoring and educating others, and deepening his faith.
It was during this time that Scooter felt a clear calling from God: to use his life experiences— both successes and failures-to guide young people toward a better path.
Today, Scooter is dedicated to mentoring youth and developing athletes through basketball while teaching real-world life skills. Through Fundamentals of Life Basketball, he uses his God-given talents to help kids learn discipline, time management, financial responsibility, and goal setting-lessons that extend far beyond sports.
